Mail Time, Mail Time!

I cannot express to you all how much I love getting presents. It's sometimes not even about what's in them but more about the anticipation you feel when you see them wrapped or when you're ripping the paper open. Seriously guys, once you get that sucker open, how excited are you going to be when you see toe socks in that beautifully wrapped box? Anticipation. That's all I'm saying...With that said, even when I know what's in the box I still get super excited and that my friends, is the joy of online shopping. Because, when you open that box and see that the adorable green dress you got with the birds on it is really an ill-fitting blue dress with cats on it, there's not much you can do but hold on to the joy you felt before you opened that sorry excuse for a piece of clothing. Oh, and let's not forget how much you hate cats, but that's besides the point. I'm not sure where I'm going with this. I was just going to tell you all about the things I ordered in the mail but somehow I got off track. Okay, so the other day when I recieved my packages from amazon I've been relentlessly tracking and awaiting you could imagine my excitement. If you couldn't, well I was very excited. So before I waste your time even more today by my rambling I'll show you guys what I got! ARE YOU AS EXCITED AS I AM? If not, that's okay. Just pretend.

Famous Frocks for Less

Hey guys! How has your week been so far? Mine's been pretty good. My whole family except for me was sick this week :( but I haven't caught anything from them and I'm hoping it stays that way. That's really the only thing that brought my week down from an awesome to a pretty good because other than that I've been able to make some video tutorials and think of post ideas for you guys. So, on to today's post. The other night I was watching New Girl reruns on the computer when the cotton Zooey Deschanel commercial came on. It advertised that you could go to their website and see inside her "stylebook". Well after looking at her stylebook and inside Kate Bosworth's closet I realized how much I related to both of their style and how I wish their clothing was cheaper. A lot of the pieces I saw I'm almost positive you would be able to find in thrift stores or vintage boutiques (not the exact same of course but a similar version). However you can't really shop online thrift stores so I thought I'd share some looks I loved that you can purchase for less at mainstream shops.

 Kate Bosworth

Kate Bosworth's dress from the cotton commercial is a $990 Prada dress and the one on the right is a similar looking delia's $44.50 dress and a $30 belt.

 Taylor Swift

I'm not sure how much Taylor Swift's outfit is (pictured above) but I'm guessing it's not less than $144. Shirt, pants, purse, and shoes.

Zooey Deschanel

Not including the shoes, this outfit comes out to a total of about $106. Sorry, I don't know how much the original outfit was! In the picture Zooey is wearing boots but I thought this would look better with flats plus I think they match her personality and her character's better. What do you think?  Shirt,  shorts,  belt, shoes (which were $100), and tights.

3 Cheers for cheap clothes!

Guest Nails! : Stamping

Seriously, two posts on Tuesday two weeks in a row? What, now? For this post I have some guest nails, who is the guest you ask...Haley my little sista! As you can see, I used my nail stamper again. We're becoming besties fast. I was trying to practice doing other people's nails cleanly and it turned out okay. Whenever I use dark colors my hands get all spastic, it's so strange. Oh, and when I'm freehanding designs my hands are shaking so fast I look like an 90 year old man. It's crazy, I need to fix that. Anyhowwww, this mani was originally supposed to be zebra stripes on all of her nails but it was late and we were lazy. I'm not sure why Haley didn't want me to do her nails any longer than was necessary since she just had to sit there but that's how it went down. So, it turned into an accent nail mani, which was fine and still looked super fun. The sparkles really brightened up the whole mani since the blue was so dark and vampy. I really liked how this turned out, I hope you guys do too!
I used Ulta - Wild Night (on sale! love polish sales) which is the dark vampy blue and OPI - Happy Anniversary the white sparkly accent nail base
Have a super duper fabulous week!

Green Dragonfly

HELLOOO AGAIN! Today for (drumroll)...TIP-TASTIC TUESDAY I have a really pretty green polish with a cute little white dragonfly on my ring finger for your viewing pleasure. I'm really loving this whole nail stamping deal, it's addicting. I used a sally girl polish for the base (I couldn't find the name. Weird.) and sally hansen xtreme wear - white out for the dragonfly which was suprisingly opaque for a nail stamp. I'm going to keep this post short and just let you enjoy the pictures now :)

Contouring & Highlighting Video

Just a quick post here, this is a great youtube video on contouring and highlighting your face which in general makes a huge difference. This video is not by me which will be quite obvious when you start watching it since I am not a man nor do I have an accent. :) Have a great weekend!

Nail Finish Glossary

Hello Everyone! Let me just start off by saying that this is pretty much the best thing ever. I found this awesome nail finish glossary on lacquerized (who has quite amazing nail posts, check em out). She is seriously dedicated to her readers to take the time to make this, but I'm so glad she did! I hope you guys find this as useful as I do!

A creme is one of the most popular finishes we know. This is just a plain color without any glitter, shimmer, etc added to it. The finish is glossy and smooth.

A jelly is just like a creme, but the main difference is the substance: more jelly-like. They tend to be sheer but they make up for it by being xtremely glossy.

The shimmer finish is a colored base with shimmer added to it, most of the times that color is silver but we're seeing contrasting colors more often.

Glass flecked polishes look like they contain small glass particles, often mixed in a jelly base. The finish is very smooth, yet sparkly.

You could say neon describes color, not finish. But most neons do have a particular finish, very bright colors that often dry semi-matte.

A frost is a very fine shimmery polish with obvious bruststrokes. These kind of finishes are losing popularity and mostly seen in older polishes.

The pearl finish is quite similar to the frost finish, but it has a more pearly sheen to it.

Foil polishes often have a metallic base color with very fine glitter added to it. The finish is very smooth yet sparkly.

Metallic finishes make your nails appear like metal. Metallic polishes are especially popular in copper, gold or silver.

Glitter is one of most flashiest finishes. These glitters are often put in a jelly base. The amount of glitter can vary a lot. Sometimes you'll need top coat to smoothen the surface.

Mostly glitter in a clear base so they're often used as a top coat. String glitter consists out of glitters in rectangular shapes, often in silver or iridiscent colors.

Just as string glitter, these are mostly used as a top coat. The glitters in this clear base are round shaped.

Another glitter top coat, but with glitter in the shape of squares.

A very popular glitter shape: hex or hexagonal. These are very popular and more common these days. Often used in regular glitter polish as well.

This is a very special glitter top coat, in this picture you see stars, but there are also glitter top coats containing hearts and diamonds (rhombus).

This finish dries completely matte, no shine whatsoever. These dry quickly and sometimes end up being streaky. Handlotion is to be avoided because it decreases the matte effect.

Satin finishes end up matte as well, but not entirely matte. There is still a slight shine, but not enough to classify it as glossy.
Just like mattes, suedes are completely matte. Suedes contain shimmer though, so that's what sets them apart from regular mattes.
Holographic polishes contain rainbow colored glitter, which changes color on the reflection of light. This finish is very obvious in sun light.

Holographic glitter in a different color base. The glitter is often more sparse and while it does change color upon different light, there is no rainbow effect to be seen.

Flakie polishes consist out of a jelly base with very fine opal (often duochrome) particles in it. They're mostly used for layering as the jelly base is often sheer.

Duochrome polishes change color on the reflection of light. True duochromes are very obvious and often show 2 colors, but sometimes even more.

This finish is often confused with duochrome or shimmer. An iridiscent finish is a color that flashes a different color. These are not obvious enough to be a duochrome.

This is a half transparent finish, often used in French manicures to show off the white tips. A lot of sheers are salmon, nude or pink.

This is a strange and not that well known finish. A water finish resembles the characteristics of a jelly, but is less opaque.

Silly Sisters & B-day Breakfast

Hi guys! How has your week been? Mine has been pretty good. Tonight my parent's are hosting a "care group" for our church so Haley (my younger but closest in age sister) and I will be on baby duty. Meaning, it'll be our job to keep the kiddys entertained and quiet at the same time, a pretty difficult task if you ask me. Anyway, the other night Haley, some of the little ones, and I were all in her room watching TV and eating italian ices, yum, I looked over at my little sister Lucie and saw her entire mouth was bright blue. Darn those blue raspberry ices. She looked so cute I had to take a picture. Excuse our "duck lips", I'm going to say right now that this is the only time it isn't offensive or just plain annoying to make this face. Plus, look how cute Lucie is?

A few days before my bday my adorable little sis (who isn't that little, she's only 2 years younger than me) made me a bday breakfast! We were both watching the little kiddys and she told me to come downstairs and bring my camera. When I came down she had put the pretty food on the table, obviously immediately we sat down and dug in (right after I took some pictures), it was super yummy!

I hope you guys have an awesome Wednesday!
